My baby is 6 months old today. Time flies when you're having fun.
I remember those challenging first few months. Especially with our reflux baby. I remember thinking, "Maybe he'll be over this by 6 months" (which is a common milestone for outgrowing reflux issues) and wanting to just be there. Now that we're here, and the reflux is better, I just feel like it's come too fast.
I started adding dairy back into my diet. He is much more tolerant, though I still have some limits. He does fine with store bought baked goods now, he's fine with real creamer in the coffee, a little bit of cheese on salads and tacos, I've found I don't have to be as picky with salad dressings, he even did fine when I ate the pizza. But, I braved some ice cream last week and apparently that's where the line is. He had the back arching and crying after eatings for like 2 days. I felt terrible. At least we know he's improved though.
He's doing so well with his introduction to eating solids. So far he loves sweet potatoes, carrots, the oatmeal cereal, he extra loves bananas, and he hates squash. Our upcoming foods are peas and apples.
His 6 Month Wellness visit wasn't anything too surprising. At 6 months old he weighs 14 pounds and 1 once (2.9th percentile), he's 25.25 inches long (5.5th percentile), and his head circumference is 42.8 cm (30th percentile).
Hopefully that says something about him being top heavy. We tease him all the time about his huge head. Poor guy. I think he deserves some kudos for being able to sit up - lol.
He is sitting up! He's so cute when he sits up. He's not mastered the skill just yet, if he moves too suddenly he does topple over. He's gotten up on his hands and knees a few times too! So cute. It's usually when he's mad though. Maybe he harnesses the anger and turns it into strength.
He can scoot quite a bit when on his tummy. If he wants something he'll roll and scoot until he's to it. I mean, sure he gets mad about it, but he does it. He's an excellent roller.
His temper's still there. He gets so mad over silly things. Like not being able to reach a toy or trying to put a giant ball in his mouth that won't fit. He'll arch his back and flail and scream and turn red. Personally, I think it's somewhat comical. I'm sure I'll get that out of my system real fast though.
He's getting more control over those little fingers every day. Of course he can pick things up, transfer objects between hands, and put things in his mouth with ease.
He loves to stand up (with help, of course). Once he did stand while using only the arm of the chair for support.
He uses those little monkey feet to help get and balance things when on his back. I think it's so weird and cute. He can easily grab his feet now and is working relentlessly to get them into his mouth.
He loves his jumperoo (even though is feet can't touch all that well).
He's a fan of his stuffed dog that daddy named Konig.
He still enjoys his swing and bouncer for limited time intervals.
He loves trying to figure out mirrors.
He likes red solo cups (Cory's fault).
He likes being held and carried around.
He grabs the spoon while you're feeding him and can help guide it into his mouth.
Our new pediatrician said we should easily be able to start some small finger foods within in 2 or 3 weeks.
Very, very unfortunately, his heart condition was still heard at this visit. That means back to the Pediatric Cardiologist for us. I'm trying not to stress yet, but I just keep hearing the other Pediatric Cardiologist saying, "I wouldn't be worried about it unless it's still present at 6 months." I'm just standing in agreement that the Lord is healing him from this and it's not an issue.
Of course, shots are always terrible. He received 4 today, 3 were the usual and 1 flu shot. I can barely stand to be in the room. I just hate that he doesn't understand what's happening. He just understands that he's hurting. I know he won't remember it, but I will. He's been really cranky all day too. More so than with the prior shots. I'm guessing it's the flu shot. Even though they're not suppose to "bother you" they've always made me feel crappy too. Poor baby.
His schedule is so perfect right now. He has two long naps (a 1.5 hour one in the morning and a two hour one in the afternoon) and a catnap (30-45 minutes in the evening). He's been consistently sleeping 9-10 hours a night since like 12 weeks old, but recently he did add the addition hours to make it to twelve. He now sleeps from 8pm-8am. Yay :)
He loves his sleep. Back around 3 months we started some sleep training and it paid off. We can now lay him down completely awake and he will put himself to sleep. He does use the pacifier when falling asleep, which isn't ideal, but is what it is.
I'm just such a proud parent! I think he's so awesome and doing so well to have been nearly 4 weeks early. He's a blessing, my little answered prayer. I just can't understand parents who pawn their children off on other people frequently. I can barely stand being away from him long enough for a date night. (Different strokes for different folks, I guess.)
He's brought so much joy these past 6 months, I can only imagine how much more he'll bring.
I'm already holding on to every precious moment. I just want to preserve everything. It did take getting through the first few months, but now I see how quickly time is going by with him. I say everyday, "Enjoy this" referencing something to Cory. He's only going to be a baby once ;)
