11 Months Old

Can you believe it? Here we are 11 months old and still posting strong ;)  I'm thrilled to have documented so much about Nolan. I cannot wait to print these into a book when we reach the one year mark. Which is just a single month away. Oof.

This was a very busy month. He had his first Christmas! It was a blast, of course. He loves all his new stuff. You can read about it and see pictures in this post.

He got his first two teeth! Of course they would be coming in that whole week of Christmas, but he handled it really well.

We had our visit back to MO, which if we hadn't gotten sick would've been about perfect. We got to see almost all of our family except for my Pa (because who knows why) and Cory's mom (because she was too sick).

Nolan's a bigger skeptic of people these days, but after a brief warm up he was a ham for everybody. He got some great bonding time with my mom on this trip, which I thought was so awesome. A few times, he even reached for her when he was mad at me or Cory. Plus, he let paw-paw pack him around quite a lot too.

As always, he loves Aunt Hollie. He finds her very entertaining.

He let Uncle Brandon just love him up, which was the sweetest thing. My nieces are crazy about him. They'll just play with him and kiss his little head.

My mom's side of the family even postponed the Christmas party until we were in, so it was such an amazing time with all of them! I have so much fun when we all get together that I'm always left wondering why we haven't done it more often. My mom's parents even got out and came to it, which meant the world to us. Let's face it, they're old ;)  I know it's hard on them to get out and we can't go see them at their house because my Pa smokes :(  but they adore Nolan, so it was such a sweet blessing that he got to spend some time with them. He even sat on great grandma's lap long enough for some pictures.

Unfortunately, he caught RSV on the visit. Read all about that torturous infection here. He's actually just fully recovered from it this past week.

He has two more teeth coming in on top. They're still below the gum line for now, but you can see them.

He can stand by himself so much better! So cute! He's getting a little braver with it. He's had a little push toy/walker thing since he was about 9 months old now, but he's just recently really gotten interested in it. Even though, he still just doesn't seem all that interested in walking. He's like 'meh, whatever.' I'm not worried about it, and I'm not going to force it on him or anything.

The other day, though, I really thought he was going to test the waters a little more. He'd pulled up on the chair and turned to face outward (because I was on the couch). He was looking at me and I could tell he wanted to get over to me. The chair is just a couple of feet away from the couch. His little butt was the only thing leaned against the chair, then he pushed off and stood there for some time on his own. His little hands were stretched out, reaching with all his might, and quivering a little like he knew he was just this close. He picked up one foot and moved it forward like he was just going to walk right on over. As soon as he stepped it out he immediately sat down.

I just love watching him try and learn and build up this confidence.

He's just so tiny though, I think it'll be so odd for him to be walking around here and I can't believe it's just around the corner.

As of this weekend, we started our weaning process from nursing. We're dropping the dream feed and per our pediatrician's suggestion started mixing his morning cereal with cow's milk and offering him sips of it a few times a day. He gobbles down the cereal like he doesn't even notice, but he's not liking the sips of it at all. Hopefully he gets there, because he's got one month to get there ;)

He hasn't drank from a bottle in over a month! Except for his little medicine bottle that he takes his vitamin from at night. We're fixing to transition that over to a dropper agian now that I'm no longer scared he'll choke to death. He's pretty much weaned to a straw cup, which is pretty exciting, hopefully we don't have to revert back with the cow's milk. Our doc said it might be a comfort connection for him, and he might accept it better from a bottle. I'm going to try to avoid it, but if he keeps rejecting the cow's milk we might have to give it a try.

He follows me around a lot more these days. Before when I left a room, he'd usually just get upset. Now, he still does, but he'll crawl after me and just explore around in whatever room I'm in. The kitchen is his favorite. He'll pull up on the dishwasher and stand there the whole time I do dishes. It's so cute.

He's not better at using a spoon to feed himself, but I don't think I gave him quite as many opportunities this month either :/

I think he's really close to making the word connections of mama and dada. He'll look right at us when he uses the words, however he does still just babble them out meaninglessly quite a lot too.

He waves so well these days, he can wave on command or wave in return to someone else doing it.

He 'blows' kisses. Only not with the whole hand bit, he just does the pucker and pop with his lips when you say "kisses."

He'll give me a hug when I ask for one... most of the time.

He can clap his hands, but he won't do it very often. He does it for me through out the day when we play patty cake and stuff, but he won't do it very well when you ask him to.

Over the holidays and sicknesses we slacked terribly on colors and shapes, but I did some work with him on Friday with this and he still knew red and yellow and circle. Pretty impressive retention of information that hadn't been enforced in almost a month.

I'm going to try to get back on this again now that things seem to be settled down.

We're going to start working on weaning off the swaddlepod too. The swaddlepod isn't as restrictive as most swaddles. The fabric is stretchy and giving and he moves around pretty freely in it, but it's always been a comfort to him and I'm not bothered by it and the pediatrician said, "hey whatever works for him." So... here we are. His swaddle is made to help you transition by allowing only one arm out at a time. We're going to try to start there. If it works out poorly, we might have to go cold turkey on the guy. Oy.

Alright, my next age milestone post will be about our one year old! Ah!

Look at this little sir, takin his Christmas picture like a champ!

Man, these guys all really dropped everything to hang out with us on this visit. Love them!

Mawmaw and pawpaw with their grandkids.

They love him.

Love. Love. Love.

Aunt Hollie adores this kid, and he's got her pretty wrapped as a result :)

My goodness. I'm crazy about my brother's kids, but for some reason I had no idea he'd be as crazy as he is over mine.

Technically this is cousin Kim, but in real life it's Aunt Kim. She's awesome with him! He trusted her pretty easily.

Airports, bleh. That carrier's a godsend though.

Just chillin, waitin on our plane.

He was more intrigued with the window this time.

This is about all he did for a whole week. Literally. Saddest thing ever.

Our first time outdoors in weeks! We're like, "WE LOVE BIRDS NOW."

He never leaves me alone, but it's cool ;)

"DISHES!"

"But mom, we aren't finished yet."

He kinda likes makeup... what of it?

Back to the never leaving me alone thing... ;)

He loves the camera ;)

Cute. Cute. Cute.

I swear, he has clothes that fit ;)  But the outfit was cute, riiight?

He threw the hat off. Wish I'd caught that little fit on camera.

I have more floating around on my phone, but there are a few new uploads on the YouTube (here).
