He takes enough steps in a row these days, that I don't even count anymore. He can easily walk across all the rooms in the house (with more hesitation on the hardwood). He's so weird about it. Sometimes he needs lots of encouragement and prompting, while other times if you give it any attention at all he'll stop right where he's at and sit down. When he's playing I've seen him stand himself up and take steps over to new toys.
Having said all of that, crawling is still overwhelming his preferred method to move.
Anyone wondering about this: In cause you didn't know, walking ranges are huge. Normal falls anywhere between 10 months of age and 15 months of age. Obviously, 10 months of age being very early and 15 months of age being on the late side. Just a fun fact for you... that you might not've known.
If your kid walked at 8 months old, good for you. I bet that was absolutely adorable. If your kid walked right smack in the middle of average at the 12 month mark, I bet that was exciting. But, I've been asked implicatively twice now about Nolan's lack of preference to walk and if I'm being honest it's frustrating.
Not just frustrating because the implication is lacking overall knowledge of child development, but also frustrating because, well, yes, I am a little frustrated that he isn't walking yet. Especially when I do work with him so much. #rantover
We're transitioning Nolan off of pureed foods too. This revealing yet another challenge. Mostly because he only has a few teeth ;) But, the doc wasn't worried about that. She's said several times now that he has the jaw strength by now to 'gum it to death.' Ha! But, for some reason he's really defiant to this. Another frustration. It's the same foods we've been making him since he started eating food. Just not pureed. He is just not liking the texture change, I guess.
He's also been weird about eating since this last round of sickness though. He'll eat much more easily off of my or Cory's plate. Something about it being mom or dads apparently makes it more appealing.
He's grown! He had quite a large growth spurt just this past month! He grew like 2 inches and like 10 ounces, putting him at 17 pounds, 13 ounces and 19.25 inches long. This still keeps him in less than 1% range for height, the 5.5% for weight, and still in the 30% on head circumference.
I've seen a bit more stubbornness in him this past month too. This kid has a temper. Whew. I keep telling him he's gonna have to get it together because there's only room for one of me in our house ;)
Of course we active ignore most things at this age. He isn't capable for reasoning just yet and I don't believe in spankings at this age at all. I did setup the playpen again recently as sort of a time out/work it out thing. When he's tantruming pretty good, I will put him in there and walk away until he's calm again. I'm always giving verbal cues too. Again, I know he doesn't understand these yet, but will soon enough. I find myself frequently saying, "When you have a calm body and a calm voice, we can talk about it." We give lots of verbal cues and quite a bit of sign language too.
He gives hugs and love a lot more now! He's such a cuddle bug sometimes! He'll just let you hold him and lay his little head on your shoulder while making a little "aw-a-aw-a-aw" noise we do. He also does this to his bear like every morning. So precious.
Still just has mama, dada, and duhs (ducks) in his vocabulary with the "all done" in sign language.
I'm going to start molding his pointing to having purpose, instead of being so aimless. Bring on the books and object association!
We're still sick from our trip. I hate being sick. I hate having a sick baby. It's hard. I keep joking that we're going to get better just in time for our next Missouri trip. I'm claiming health over this one though! Good grief, I really hope we don't get sick again.
