First Birthday Blast!

We traveled to Missouri yet again for Nolan's birthday celebration. He did pretty well with it. I wasn't sure how well he'd handle so many people at once.

We had a group of 35 people come out to celebrate Nolan's birthday. It was so much fun to see everyone and a blessing that they set aside the time to come see us.

My mother and sis-in-law, Ashley, worked their butts off on Friday. We all three shared baby duties and decoration assembly. Big shout out to Aunt Ashley though! She did feedings, diaper changes, planning, errands, decorating, and most of the clean up! It was also super fun just getting to spend time with her. She lives in Phoenix and now that we're in San Fran, us being in Missouri at the same time is a very rare occurrence.

I was stoked about Nolan's party theme. I'd put a lot of work into it, making and cutting out decorations the whole week before. It took forever and was totally worth it.

You guessed it, we did a space theme!

For memory sake, the two things I didn't manage to get good pics off was the planet pops (suckers) and star dust (pixie sticks).

I super loved the theme. I loved that we matched it with his nursery. I also designed his shirt!

Gotta love all the matching ;)

When Nolan arrived to the party, he was in a great mood. He held my hand and walked around and loved watching all the other kids. He looked so much smaller than his cousin who is the same age, it was crazy. Of course, we already know he's small. On the plane ride in someone asked me if he was a 6 month old. [sigh]

I let him eat some pizza, that he enjoyably gobbled right down. He sat in his little chair just looking around, taking it all in as he ate his food. We got taunted a bit for not letting him have candy, but he was about to eat half of a 6 inch cake and little baby kidneys can't process sugar that well anyway.

We got him out for presents next. He did well with it. I thought he'd get bored and end up wondering around while me and Cory opened his presents. But, he stayed with it and played with tissue paper or looked in the bags and played with some of the things as we opened them.

He totally scored on a bunch of new, adorable clothes! He got some new balls, several books, and some toys. All were wonderful gifts.

Next came the cake! I knew he would not be shy. When we'd done his little cake for him on his actual birthday we barely got through singing happy birthday before he was trying to dig in. He stuck his hands on it as soon as it was in front of him, but the icing had gotten a little hard from setting out. We mushed up the top of it and he was shoveling it in after that.

It was hilarious how he looked around at everyone when we sang happy birthday. It was like you could hear his thought of, "What are you people doing?"

Several people asked for bites, of which he'd look at you like you were crazy, while cramming into his own mouth.

I love the way he looks at people. Maybe it's his ridiculouly gorgeous eyes, but I crack up at the way he looks at things. He's definitely a little people watcher.

After he'd had the cake, he got pretty whiny. I think it was a combination of being tired and possibly the sugar. I let him have a few sips of punch as well. People laugh at us about the sugar thing, but I get super amazed at how much sugar people will give their small children. He'd certainly had more sugar than his tiny body needed.

All in all, it was a fantastic day! Thanks to everyone who helped make it perfect!

p.s. He took 5 steps on his own that day! :)

A few more pics from his actual birthday:
