Cardiologist Checkup

Today we visited the Pediatric Cardiologist again. It'd been six months since our last checkup.

Nolan had another Echocardiogram (heart ultrasound). He was so amazing. I gave him a sucker (which was the third time in his life he's gotten candy), and he laid there so perfectly. Just watching and sucking on that sucker. I mean, he was basically a perfect patient. Especially for a 20 month old.

We didn't have to challenge the good patient with another EKG though, so that was nice.

After the doctor had viewed the ultrasound and asked us a bunch of questions he finally delivered the good news.

Everything was functioning perfectly.

The bicuspid aortic isn't leaking, and blood is flowing well through it. The aberrant right subclavian artery (artery that runs abnormally behind the esophagus) was a bit dilated, but he explained that was to be expected with cases like this and also isn't causing any problems at the moment.

Bottom line: his heart is working perfectly.

As long as no symptoms develop, his next checkup isn't for a whole year!

Unfortunately, this is something Nolan will have to have checked regularly throughout his life. It's also something that may never cause problems though. So, that's how I'm going to look at it. I'm going to pray that Nolan's heart stays healthy and perfectly functioning, even with the minor abnormalities. If it ever crosses your mind, stand in agreement with me in that prayer :)
