Wow! Two months already, huh?
My goodness, he's growing so fast - even though he's still only in the 25th percentile. We're making progress. Hopefully we still have at our next appointment (on Monday). Oy, that's the one were he gets his shots :( I don't think I'm going to be able to stay in the room.
I've had to put up about every piece of newborn clothing we had. Now we're working our way into the too big 0-3 month pieces.
Poor guy, if we ever get this reflux under control I think I'll have about the easiest baby ever. When he isn't upset with the stomach stuff he is the most precious thing on this earth. He smiles so much more now. He's chattering at us more each day! He's making new noises all the time and if you get him real excited by talking to him excitedly he starts breathing real hard and will yell. It's adorable. And if you mock a noise he makes he'll make it again and you can do that back and forth a few times before he's bored with it ;)
The faces he makes are hilarious. He can raise one eyebrow up higher than the other and looks at me like that a lot. He probably thinks I'm crazy, but he thinks I'm funny a lot of the time too. His smiles melt my heart every single time. They have certainly made the list of my favorite things in life.
I started putting him on my knee and doing "Giddy Up Horsey." He loves it. He'll just smile and make sounds. It's so precious.
It's hilarious how much fun things as simple as that can be for parents, huh? ;)
On April 8th, at 7 weeks and 6 days old Nolan rolled over! To be fair, I think it was more of an accident than anything, but it counts. We've done tummy time since the very first day we brought him home. So by the time he was two weeks old he was pushing himself up for several seconds at a time already. Babies are curious little things, they want to see what's going on. By the time he was 3-4 weeks old, I was impressed with how long he'd hold his head up for when laying on his stomach. It wasn't long after that before he started pushing his whole upper body up by using his hands and arms.
As soon as he started doing that, he would sometimes push up only one side of his body and could push himself up onto his side and a few times almost over to his back. We'd witnessed him almost rolling over so many times. Then, that day he did it, he shoved up and rolled over. He had the most hilariously surprised look on his face and made some kind of noise.
I thought it was awesome that Cory and I both got to see his first time rolling over.
We have started allowing a pacifier occasionally. Sucking a pacifier produces more saliva and more saliva can help keep the acid down from the reflux - or so they say.
Now, I'm not one of those people who is totally anti-pacifier. It stimulates brain functioning and strengthens sucking reflexes and jaw muscles and some theorize it can help decrease the chances of SIDS. I was mainly just avoiding it because I know it sucks to wean kids off of soothing props.
I've started using it to block thumb sucking too. Ugh. You can take a pacifier away at least. You can't take a thumb away. I've seen kids reflexively still suck their thumbs at 5 and 6 years old.
This little boy has been sucking on hands since he was in the womb! He's getting it figured back out. He's been trying, and unable, to get a single finger in and will instead just shove as much of his fist as possible into his mouth and suck on that. However, several times now he has successfully got just the thumb. Admittedly, it's super cute. But, I'd like to try to block that if I can.
I don't give him a pacifier when he sleeps. I don't want him using it has a sleep prop, plus if he falls asleep with it and loses it, he'll just be upset when he wakes back up because he knows he fell asleep sucking something. He can't exactly pick it up and put it back in. The Baby Wise book strongly discourages from sleeping/soothing props anyway.
He really just gets it when he's awake and gets really upset or it's clear he's fussy because of the reflux thing, during diaper changes, and sometimes in the carseat for the first little bit when he's mad.
Having said all of that, since he doesn't get the pacifier when he sleeps... guess what he's getting better and better at?
