6 Weeks Old

My baby is 6 weeks old today. Wow. Six weeks ago at this very moment, I was at work completely unsuspecting that I was going to meet my son later that same day. How crazy is that?

It's so strange. I feel like Nolan has already been here for forever, but at the same time it's like holy crap it's already been six weeks, he'll be leaving me to go to college soon!

It's been an exhausting, challenging, and rewarding time. Definitely the best time of my life. It's hilarious how I zombie out of bed at 3 o'clock in the morning when he's screaming, I somehow make it through the diaper change, and then by the time I'm feeding him I'm just happy to be up with him. I'm so blessed to be his mother.

He's still not feeling great. We have somewhat of a colicky baby on our hands. He's having a hard time with his acid reflux. The doc said it suddenly got worse because of a virus he caught somehow. He's had even more of an upset stomach and running a low grade temp. It's pitiful.

I always feel so bad when he feels bad. I hate the thought of him hurting in some way and not understanding it. The only thing that he understands is that he's hurting. It's terrible to be so helpless against his discomforts when I'd give anything to just take it away.

When he is feeling good though, he's getting more interactive everyday. He's making more sounds and more facial expressions. He can easily roll onto his side now and is already pretty close to rolling from his stomach to his back. There are times during tummy time when I think he's really going to make it, then he just plops back down the his tummy. He can hold his head up so well during tummy time. Not that well during just about any other time though. Lol. His chubby, little, round head.

He's definitely putting on chub at an incredible rate. He's got like a whole double neck thing going on. And his arms and legs are finally getting some on them too.

Aww. My little chub-chub.

He actually outgrew some of his newborn onsies this past week. He was up to 9 pounds at our last visit.

I think we have him on a really good schedule too. I'm pretty certain he's got days and nights down. And our night time feedings are spaced out to about every 4 hours now. He still wakes up at the 3 hour mark sometimes, but he usually sleeps from about 7:30 to 11:30, he's up again sometime around 2:30-3:30 and is back out until between 6:30 and 7:30. Not too shabby. I'm getting 8 hours of sleep in on most nights now, which is definite improvement.

And when he's up, it's usually: diaper change, eat, and back out. There are exceptions, of course, but that's the most common order of events.

So, all-in-all, we're doing pretty well. I just can't wait for his stomach stuff to be under control.
