Three Months Old

Say what? I have a 3 month old? Can't be true.

Why does 3 months feel like a forever amount of time and yet the shortest amount of time at the same time?

He's getting so big. So chubby. Our little chub-chub bug.

This month has felt especially hectic. That has a lot to do with Cory's new job hunt. He left us for 3 days to go and do on-sites with a few companies in San Francisco. It was emotional when he left. It was also the longest he and I had been apart since getting married. For real. So, throw a newborn in on that and it was just a difficult 3 days.

Nolan is still battling this acid reflux. Poor guy. And there just aren't many more changes I can make to my diet - just stop eating all together I guess ;)

We are trying some new things though and I'm remaining hopeful. There has definitely been some improvement with the diet changes, but with everything we're doing I feel like it should be more prominent. We're hanging in there. Formula has come up a few times, but I'm very much not for it. It is a last resort only.

Just in the past week or so, Nolan is not for tummy time. A few weeks ago he got to where he'd just roll over from tummy time. So, I'd roll him back. He'd get mad and cry. So, maybe that was a whoops on my part, because now he doesn't like to do it at all. And it's so important for so many muscles. We're sneaking it in when we can. He loves tummy time while on one of our chests ;)  And he'll tolerate it for a little while with the pillow prop.

I have this little game where I hold him upright with his feet on the floor and he'll stretch his legs out and we'll "walk" a few steps and then I'll bounce him. He loves it.

However, I think the most entertaining thing for him right now is his hands. He's really trying to figure those things out. He'll fold all his fingers together and clasps his hands together and he'll look at them in amazement and - of course - he's better at getting them in his mouth too. A few days ago I put one of those toy plastic rings in his hands and he even managed to put it into his mouth a few times.

That boy's got a little temper on him. Mercy. Must get that from daddy  ;)

I love all the little sounds he makes. Every time he makes a sound it just melts my heart. They're all so precious. He started doing a little delightful squeal that is my favorite. He starts breathing real hard, then he grins huge and scrunches up his nose, and squeals. It's the cutest thing in the world.

He's in the best mood first thing in the morning. After I've fed him and changed him, he'll sit and chat with me for most of his playtime.

He loves it when I tell him I'm going to get his cheeks. He'll coo at me and then get real still as I move slowly in on him, he'll only follow me with his eyes. Then after his cheeks have been thoroughly kiss attacked he flails around and squeals while breathing real hard.

We're having a lot of success with our eat-play-sleep schedule. The only sucky thing about it, is how easily he can get off schedule when we're not at home for the day. But, we're working with that part of it as best we can.

He's merged his night feedings into one. His bedtime routine still starts at 7:00 and he goes to bed between 7:30-8:00, he has his dream feed around 10:30 (he doesn't wake up, hence the name), and another one around 3 o'clock. Then he goes back to sleep until about 7:00. It's working out great for us. Especially during the week. He gets in some good time with Daddy in the morning before he goes to work.

I'm a stickler for routine though. It really is important for babies.

We're taking our first big trip with him in 2 weeks. We're flying to Texas and he's going to get to meet a lot of family from daddy's side. Exciting!

Then, in about a month we're moving across the country. With a newborn. What an adventure! I'm so excited for city life and excited for all the things to do with Nolan :)

Here's our sweet chub-chub enjoying some park time on his 3 month birthday:
