My little bitty baby turned three years old yesterday. That can't be right, can it?

Time is a weird thing. How can it be that I feel like he's been here forever, but also just arrived?

My once 5 pound, 11 ounce baby has turned into a 28 pound toddler. And he's just now doubled those 18 inches he was at birth. Keeping pretty steadily in the 13-15% for his age.

All of his developmental areas are right on schedule - except for (you guessed it) the language. And I guess even that depends on who you ask. I'll be bringing it up again at his three year check up. He talks a lot, and yes, he talks in sentences. But, he still doesn't talk in consecutive sentences very often and he needs a lot of prompting for it either way. It's just such a frustrating thing for me considering I've basically been stressing about this area since he was 12 months old.

So... he was a breeze to potty train! Cory and I like to make jokes about these kinds of things - about how easily Nolan has taken to them. We get teased that he'll "probably be an ornery teenager."

But I think it's just our reward for surviving his infancy. Poor guy had so many tummy issues! Oy.

So we did the three days to potty training strategy, with some other stuff. I didn't buy the book because I felt I'd gathered enough advice on forums and blogs to just go with it. The first three days he was naked from the waist down - definitely a good idea to baby-gate yourself into a non-carpeted area. On day 4 he was in actual underwear - I read to avoid pull-ups during potty training because they're just so similar to diapers that a lot of kids don't mind to have accidents in them, so that's really the only reason we didn't go that route. He had a pretty major setback that day that made me think he couldn't possibly be ready. But, we pushed on, and that was just it. It's like he needed to test the waters or get it out of his system. But he has not had an accident since that day! And he's in little underwear - stinkin adorable ;)

Once he was steadied into that transition - about three(ish) weeks - we decided it was time to test out the toddler bed waters.

Honestly, for some reason, he acts a little scared to get out of his bed now. I think it's basically why we haven't had any issues. He'll get up to grab some extra blankets for his blanket drawer, but even then he goes right back to bed. He hasn't tried to leave his room yet. Even when he wakes up before his wakeup time (8am), he just hangs out in there and waits for daddy to come get him. I don't know, maybe when he gets braver we'll run into an exploring toddler in the middle of the night. But, I personally like to think this is just a product of his sleep training ;)

He, all the sudden, loves riding his tricycle. He rode it all the way to the park twice this past week. It's so adorable. For a while there I thought he might never get the steering of that thing down, but a few months ago it finally clicked, and now he loves riding it.

I still have a picky eater on my hands (ugh!). Still doing what I can to encourage him - and hiding veggies when possible. No problems with meats, fruits, carbs, etc. Just veggies. He still only drinks milk and water.

He's getting tee-ball and swimming added to his schedule soon. His soccer season ends in early March. We're trying out tee-ball after that - to get a feel of what he enjoys. And he's on a wait list for a tadpole swimming league/class thingy. So, he has a few new things coming up.

And, we finally, have him on the wait list for a pre-school(ish) program. It's really a glorified playgroup. But it is in a childcare facility and it is a drop-off thing. It's two hours a day, three days a week. I really enjoyed touring the facility, meeting the teachers, and observing the classroom. I felt much, much better about this one than the previous one we'd looked in to.
