17 Weeks

About the baby:

At 17 weeks your baby is 5 to 5.6 inches long - from crown to rump and weighing in at somewhere around 5.25 ounces- still very tiny.

Your baby's cartilage is slowly turning to bone and fat is beginning to accumulate on their bodies as they grow. The umbilical cord is strengthening and thickening to accommodate the flow of essential nutrients. The placenta, which nourishes the fetus with nutrients and oxygen and removes wastes, is growing to accommodate your baby as well - and is one reason for a lot of that belly growth and extra weight! It now contains thousands of blood vessels that bring nutrients and oxygen from your body to your baby's developing body.

Those little fingers and toes are developing fingerprints!

I've had a few bouts of serious nausea lately. I woke up Friday morning at like 4am with it! Which made for a long day. Though, that was the day I found out I had a son… so the good outweighed the bad!

My pants are really uncomfortable at this point, but I'm still not big enough for the maternity pants! Gah! This is not a fun transition.

I've still been sick with cold-like symptoms too :/ Surely I'll get over them soon! Right?

Hmmm, the bladder pain seems to have improved - or is further spaced apart in episodes anyway. My pelvis and right hip are still giving me discomfort though.

I'm so excited to be at the point of picking out appropriate gender items and making baby registries and planning a baby shower!! I think we're having one in November! How exciting! I can finally start looking for things for the nursery theme! It's a very exciting time :)
