Anatomy Ultrasound Scan, 20 Weeks

He really likes trying to ball up (face down)

 Cute little profile shot

His hands are in fists here

Still working on curling up :)

Definitely a boy ;)

Yesterday, we got to see our main man! I'm still amazed every time I see that little image of a tiny human up there on the screen. And to know that he is mine! Wow.

To start with, I about threw an adult sized tantrum. They make you empty your bladder before you go in and want you to drink 32 ounces of water an hour before your appointment. With being pregnant and all, you can imagine how uncomfortable that can get.

By the time I arrived at the office, 10 minutes before my appointment time, I already felt like I needed to pee pretty badly. Then, 20 minutes after my appointment time I was pretty angry. I finally went up to the desk and asked about it and told them that I was going to go pee. Not to mention I'm still recovering from this last UTI.

They told me I could go pee "a little bit."

Just so ya know, going pee 'a little bit' is really hard to do when you have a UTI, are pregnant, and your bladder is completely full! Also… what does "a little bit" really even mean?

Nonetheless, I took the offer and managed to only pee a little bit.

About 5 minutes after that the tech finally came and got us.

Even with me getting to pee a little before, I still had to go super bad. About 10 minutes into the ultrasound my lower back started hurting and my whole abdomen was hurting. Seriously. Then, I started to get the like cold sweats and I told her that I thought I was going to throw up. She ended up letting me go pee. I felt so much better afterwards.

Some of you know that I'd been nervous about this ultrasound. I was worried about some things because of some lung medicines I've been on, and I was worried because I had been feeling the baby move and then I wasn't anymore.

But, finally, there he was up on the screen. Beating heart and flopping arms.

It was our anatomy scan. So the tech was looking at all major organs and physical structures - that are noticeable. She started with all the limbs. Two arms and hands, and two legs and feet. She moved up to check spinal integrity and said that his was great. Next was checking the kidneys, bladder, and stomach - which are all there ;) She got a really good look at his heart, and seemed excited about the image she got for the doc. She said sometimes it's hard to get a good one, but she got some where all four chambers and valves are visible. They can only check a few organs in the brain, and the ones that she could check were there.

She got a few pretty cute images of hands/fingers. She kept trying to get a picture of the ear and he literally kept putting his hands up over his ears/face. It was pretty cute. When she was checking the eyes, nose, jaws, and mouth he also kept trying to get his hands in his mouth - which was inconvenient for the tech, but adorable for me ❤

She got good shots of upper and lower jaw and saw a solid, continuous line for both lips. Nose structure looked good as well.

He's measuring in the 50th percentile for size - aka nearly perfect :)  Don't want a baby that's too big or too small, right? He was 51% to be exact, and is approximately 13-14 ounces and 10-12 inches long.   [Side note: On the way home Cory looked at my stomach and said, "Son, this is the only time 50th percentile will be acceptable. Lol.]

My cervix length and uterus tilt were great, baby is already head down. Let's hope he stays that way!

Unfortunately, they think some of my cramping 'sessions' could actually be early contractions  :(  Which, is worrisome. They told me to really push fluids - in case it's brought on by dehydration - and to keep a real close eye on it.

I had gained two pounds though, that puts me at a total of 3 pounds, which also puts me under my estimate. But, he's still not worried about that 'yet.'

I started my prenatal workouts back up this past week (for real this time) and I think I have been feeling better as a result.

Other than that and the stress and worry of a first time pregnancy, I've been feeling pretty fantastic! My mood and emotions seem more stable. I have been feeling those little pressure jabs of baby movements more often. I'm planning the room theme and have started purchasing some stuff. I'm working on my registries and shower invitations! I'm smack in the middle of a bunch of fun stuff! Plus, my bump isn't too big, but big enough that people know I'm pregnant now :)

And, today we did a short little half-way maternity shoot! My belly isn't quite big enough to get really cute shots, but I think we did well with what we were working with ;)  It was super cold too! Pretty sure this first pic is going on the invitations - it's my current favorite pregnancy pic :)
