21 Weeks

About the baby:

In week 21, the amniotic fluid that has cushioned and supported your baby in the uterus now serves another purpose - to act as a shield between what you consume and how your baby receives it. The intestines have developed enough that small amounts of sugars can be absorbed from the fluid that is swallowed and passed through the digestive system to the large bowel. Almost all of your baby's nourishment, however, still comes from you through the placenta.

Until now your baby's liver and spleen have been responsible for the production of blood cells. But now the bone marrow spaces are developed enough to contribute to blood cell formation as well, and bone marrow will become the major site of blood cell production in the third trimester and after birth.

And, get ready mom, those cute this flutters are fixing to become hard kicks and nudges.

I'm definitely feel more pronounced baby movement. I've always had a hard time imagining what it would feel like because so many people call it 'butterflies' or 'flutters.' That's not how I'd describe it though. I'd have used the word flutter from about weeks 16 to 19, because that's what I'd feel sometimes. However, in the past week, I feel little vibrations and - better yet - pressure jabs! That's exactly what it feels like to me - a jab of pressure.

Feeling my baby move inside of me - and knowing that it is truly the baby - has been one of the most amazing things in my whole life so far. That's my baby in there!

Today at work I put some ultrasound pics up on my door with the baby's name written on my white board and an arrow pointing toward the pictures. Yep. Finally told the name at work. Lol.

Our rocker came in! If we don't get around to assembling it this week, hopefully we'll tackle it this weekend. And with my first shower just a month away, I've really got to get on completing my registries!

I think that's all for now.

(The whole time I've been typing this my little pressure jabber has been hard at work :)
