27 Weeks

About the baby:

At week 27, you're starting your third and final trimester! Woohoo! Your baby looks similar to what he or she will look like at birth now, except thinner and smaller. The lungs, liver, and immune system still need to fully mature, but if born now, your baby would have a very good chance of surviving.

Your baby has graduated to a new growth chart too, instead of being measured from crown to rump they'll be measured from head to toe! And your baby's head-to-toe length this week is approximately 15 inches! And their weight is probably just over 2 pounds now. Getting bigger.

As hearing continues to develop, your baby can distinguish between many different sounds now (not exactly what they are, but that they're different). Sounds are probably very muffled, because the ears are still covered with vernix, the thick waxy coating that protects the skin from becoming chapped by the amniotic fluid, but their hearing is improving.

Fun fetal factoid: Your baby has more taste buds now than he or she will have at birth! That means they can probably taste the subtle differences in the amniotic fluid baste on what you're eating! So they may respond differently when you eat sweet, salty, spicy, etc.

A few new things this week. One: I had heartburn for the first time in my life. At least I know what caused it and hopefully it won't be a recurring thing.

Two: sleeplessness. Ugh. One of the most popular pregnancy complaints (that I hear).

The weird thing is that I'm not necessarily uncomfortable when I'm waking up. It's like I just wake up and it'll take me some time to get back to sleep.

Although, sometimes it is due to discomfort. I've been having a pretty moderate degree of right hip pain. Also, tailbone discomfort… and pelvis stuff. Of course the OB says some degree of all of this is normal, but that he does fear the degree of which I'll experience because of my pelvis problems.

Then, it's fitting that I'd wake up sick yesterday morning, because I'd just bragged to a  co-worker about going a whole 2 weeks with no illnesses. Same ole, same ole. Sinuses, sore throat, fever, body aches… hopefully I'm wrong… but I'm sure the chest junk is just waiting for some mucus to setup first.

Some worrisome things is that for the last two days I haven't felt much baby movement at all. Of course, that always stresses me out.

They let me skip this week on appointments, so I'm not due back to see the OB until the 19th. I'm also having the fun glucose test that day as well.

My belly has felt super tight the last two days too! Also, I can feel the baby through my skin more which is so weird and so awesome! Usually if I feel a lot of pressure in one area, I can rub it and feel the little hard ball there that is my baby. Once I start rubbing it, he usually only stays there for a bit longer.

I'm loading up on my lotions/oils. Lol. No stretch marks yet. And I'm still hanging around a weight gain of about 5-7 pounds. It's fluctuating a lot right now. I'll lose like 2 pounds one week and then gain them right back the next. It's baffling to my doc. Especially since I'm not doing any diet or activity changes.

My newest craving is Hershey's Kisses. Ugh. Need to get back to the salad one, huh? Btw, it can't be just a Hershey's chocolate bar either. It has to be the kisses. Don't know why… they just don't taste the same to me right now. It's probably mental ;)

Our car seat an stroller came in this week! Super exciting!

And we're officially planning and fixing to prepare our hospital bags/instructions/check off lists. Fun times.

The countdown is on! Just 13 weeks left :)
