28 Weeks

About the baby:

In week 28, your baby weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and may be as long as 16 inches. At your next prenatal appointment, your health care provider may tell you whether your baby is headfirst or feet first (called breech position) in the womb. Babies who are in the breech position may need to be delivered by cesarean section. Your baby still has 2 months to change position, though, so don't worry if your baby is in the breech position right now. Most babies will switch positions on their own.

The folds and grooves of your baby's brain continue to develop and expand. The new skill development this week is blinking. Yep, along with other new tricks like coughing, sucking, hiccuping, and taking practice breaths.

Your baby can probably have dreams now, as they are able to hit REM (rapid eye movement) sleep cycles.

The newest thing this week has been muscle cramps. I think I've had calf and foot cramps every night this week. It's a real annoyance. They're pretty intense too, and it leaves me feet and legs feeling very sore the next morning.

No more heartburn - yay!

The skin on my stomach is feeling really tight though and bending down is becoming more of a challenge. I still have 12 weeks to go too! Whew…

Still not stretch marks. Oy… let's see how well that holds up in these last few months of rapid fetal growth.

I think I'm at about the 10 pound weight gain mark now. I go back to the doctor tomorrow, so we'll see what their scale says.

I'm also doing my glucose test tomorrow. Say a prayer that it's all good! I'm not showing any symptoms of Gestational Diabetes, but I know they can be quite mild sometimes.

Fetal movement is still just so sporadic. I did get a pretty good jab in the ribs again today though, so I guess that's a sign he's getting stronger. His heartbeat is doing well, so I try not to worry too much about it.

And no big cramps this week! So that's been exciting.

I was thinking about it today, I know I've had some hiccups, and definitely some complaints and scares - but really, what pregnant person hasn't - but I'm overwhelmingly in-love with being pregnant. It hasn't failed my expectations. I love feeling my baby move and having Cory rub my stomach. I love the excitement and anticipation that I get to share with my husband. I love the anticipation and excitement from our family and friends. And… I feel really good most days (as of now). But ya know… ask me again in about 2 months ;)
