Doc Appointment (August 10, 2012)

After my most recent doctor's appointment yesterday, I've decided I don't have the patience for OB appointments! My goodness. My OB's office has actually been pretty amazing in the way of not-much-waiting thus far. He's even been my annual gynecologist for a few years and I've never had to wait very long for appointments.

But on Friday, I waited like two hours past my appointment time! I was in a hurry too, because I had plans to go to PB to see my BFF and sis-in-law who was in from Arizona. So I was pretty flustered. I understand some people wait way longer than that for their OBs, but I've never had to… and I certainly won't be able to do that when I start back to work.

Anyway, when I finally got back there, the nurse practitioner told me she was going to try to find the heartbeat on the doppler! I was pretty excited, because I've heard several different things on this. Several weeks ago a regular nurse told us we'd try and that didn't happen. At the next appointment we asked about it and was told they probably wouldn't do that until the 2nd trimester. So, it was a pleasant surprise!

I only have like an 8 second clip of it… and it might be hard for you to decipher, but here is my precious Lovebug's heartbeat! It was 174 bpm.

Every time the heartbeat has been checked it's been on the higher end of the scale, not high… just on the higher end of the scale. You know what the old wives' tale say Cory… faster heartbeat = boy ;)

In case I haven't mentioned it, my husband truly believes that we are having a girl. If you ask him he doesn't think there's even a real chance our baby might be a boy. It's actually pretty cute ♥

Getting to listen in to LB's heartbeat lifted my mood a lot! :)

When the doc finally came in, I was re-flustered because I'd waited a forever long time back in my little room.

He talked with me about the bladder pain and said there were some elements in my urine culture of infection, but most of them were within normal limits. Which has them all baffled because of the moderate degree of discomfort I'm having in my bladder.

I hadn't seen him at all since the last two ultrasounds so he went through all of the reports and images with me telling me everything looked great. He said the bleeding they noticed in the last one was not between the uterus and bladder, but was in fact in the uterus and thus normal. My bladder does sit low relative to my uterus, but that just is what it is.

Then he literally put his hand on my shoulder - as if he was comforting me - and said, "We've got you to your ninth week! One more week and we can all relax."

I looked at him confused and was like, "What?"

He said, "At 10 weeks the brain has - more or less - developed all of its parts. The chances of miscarriage go way down after the 10th week." The brain isn't fully developed at that point or anything, brain development is really a life-long project. Ha!

After seeking more clarification I learned that I've, apparently, been labeled as a high-risk pregnancy. They hadn't ever really mentioned that to me.

He said with all the symptoms I've had thus far in addition to my pre-existing health conditions they would treat my pregnancy with more caution than an 'average' one.

He's also putting me on a very mild antibiotic for the bladder until my next appointment, which is in three weeks. He also warned me that if I continue having the reoccurring problems, that I might have to be on something for the duration of my pregnancy! Yikes! But, then again, UTIs can definitely throw you into pre-labor during 2nd trimester… and I certainly wouldn't want that! :/
