6 Weeks

Today, I am 6 weeks pregnant. I'm sure it's safe to prepare you for frequent milestones in my pregnancy. After all, that's sort of the point of this blog ;)

About the baby:

By week 6, your baby’s brain and nervous system are developing at a rapid pace. Optic vesicles, which later form the eyes, begin to develop this week on the sides of the head, as do the passageways that will make up the inner ear.

Your baby's heart will begin to beat around this time, and it may even be detected on ultrasound examination. And the beginnings of the digestive and respiratory systems are forming, too. Small buds that will grow into your baby's arms and legs also appear this week.

Because their legs are curled up against the torso for much of the pregnancy, making a full-length measurement difficult, babies often are measured from the crown to rump rather than from head to toe. This week, your baby only measures 0.08 to 0.2 inches (2 to 5 millimeters) from crown to rump!

The waves of intense cramps are still happening. Sunday night I feel like I barely got any sleep because the cramping kept waking me up. They didn't make me completely miserable, but they did make me completely annoyed. I feel like if I lay on either side it seems to increase the pain of the cramps, but when I lay on my back for too long my hips and pelvis start hurting. It was a real lose-lose.

I've had a handful of bouts of serious nausea since Friday. In case you didn't know, I have a real phobia about vomiting. So, let's all pray I'm not one of the many ladies affected by "morning sickness." I have escaped with no vomiting so far, but when the sick feeling hits it's so intense and terrible  :(

The tiredness has really picked up too. How in the world do women work while pregnant? I mean, some jobs aren't has hard in the labor department as others, but still. With the studio the busyness comes and goes, I always have several days a week where I don't really do anything or I only do editing.

But when school starts back up, I don't know how I'm going to survive. You go non-stop with a classroom full of 5-year-olds! Something might have to give.

How did pregnant women - years and years ago - work in fields and outdoors and/or do some type of labor from sunrise to sunset? Bless their hearts. I certainly live in a pampered time, and here I am complaining about it. I bet those women would like to shake the crap out of me.  (Thank You for the generation I live in, Lord. Though faulted and flawed, still so much better than other times.)

My mood swings aren't as frequent - or that's how I feel, but maybe we should ask the hubs - however when they happen they come out of nowhere without warning. It's amazing how much I over respond to everything right now. I feel like just about anything can set me off. Sometimes the hubby chuckles at me, he finds humor in the things that can infuriate me right now. It really helps remove the emotional outburst as quickly as it comes. Usually, as soon as he laughs at me it makes me laugh too.

Doc appointment Thursday! I'll let you know how it goes.

Dear Lovebug,
You can either induce the intense painful cramps or the nausea, but not both. Please decided on only one.
Also, either the exhaustion or the mood-swings, but again not both.
;)
Love,
Your adoring mother.
